Urban Environment Project

Here is some more research into the Urban Environment Project. I have included the artists which has inspired me to make my final outcome and added some more ideas. On the right it shows some of my photography of Cabot Circus at different times of the day, night and seasons to get a true reflection of the place. I've also added lots of text of my feelings towards the secondary evidence I've collected.

Urban Environment Project

These two pages are part of my research into the Urban Environment Project. I chose Cabot Circus as part of my main research into further my final outcome because I'm interested in fashion and the architecture of the building including the scale, height, colours, shapes and proportions. In these two pages it has a lot of information into the construction and what its true aims and uses are, showing mind maps and drawings.

Artist Research- Becca McCharen & Francesca Maria Bandini

These two artist pages of Becca McCharen & Francesca Maria Bandini helped me so much to inspire me to link buildings and architecture to fashion. By expressing the shape, enlarging, managing the proportion and scale.

Artist Research- Stephen Wiltshire & Les Matthews

Here are two Artist Research pages of Stephen Wiltshire & Les Matthews. The artists are very similar as they mainly create their artwork from cities, but in completely different types of media, which has helped me to expand in create more artwork using different techniques in different ways.

Artist Research - Book of Kells and Ralph Steadman

Here are two Artist Research pages of the Book of Kells and Ralph Steadman. I really enjoyed researching these artists as they were a lot different to the types of artists that I've looked at. The artists work was very ancient but incredible as some of the techniques are still used on contemporary and modern art.

Artist Research- Dan Young & Julia Rothman

Here are two Artist Research pages of Dan Young & Julia Rothman. As our project was on objects these artists are influenced and inspired by objects and they both use them in their artwork. I've created some transcriptions of their work with photos and what I personally think of what they do.

Artist Research-Alexander McQueen

Here is an artist research page on Alexander McQueen. I'd have to admit he is my and nearly everyone's favourite fashion designer, but his work is so incredible as he's never afraid to go a bit over the top. His beautiful designs and the way the shapes and materials used enhance every aspect. On this page I've created two transcriptions of his work and added photos of his work with some text about how I feel about his work.

Fish Project

Here is a huge charcoal piece of my fish object. We had to use the charcoal piece by using only a small square part of it to create a zoomed in effect painting (which is behind the fish in the blue). I chose the eye, as it's got a lot of depth and different colours which can be blended in together. On the left is my pattern printed again from the last post and inverted colours. I think that the print could be used on any type of clothing material, curtains, wallpaper or wrapping paper. It has a lot of enhanced colours which compliment each other.

Fish Object Project

Here is my first piece of work that I created while starting the Art & Design 90-Credit Diploma. We were all given an object, mine was a toy fish model and we had to make a repeated pattern using the object. Firstly I created some designs; by minimalizing the object into a simple line drawing and then creating the repeated look. I then started to add other objects that corresponded with the object, so I chose sea weed. After it was best to add some water colour to the pattern. I wanted to give a shaded tonal effect using colour. When I had finished, I scanned in my work and used Photoshop to invert the colours to create a completely different feel to the pattern.

Plan of make IT Shorts Project

Here is a plan of make page to instruct on how I will be making my shorts. It incudes step by step instructions. The colour coded red is to highlight, health and safety regulations are in place while making (e.g, if the sewing machine needle breaks, to correctly dispose it). Also colour coded in green to highlight; quality control, which is essential to create a quality piece of work, as its for your potential customer and to achieve a more accurate and professional look.

IT Shorts Project

Here is an IT Shorts project page, which mainly involves it being computer based. Here's a disassembly page, which includes photo evidence of the dismantling of the construction of shorts. This is to help me know, how many pieces are needed to create a pair of shorts. It was really interesting to see how many parts that was actually needed and how to re-make the pair of shorts again, as the pattern pieces are very complicated.

Final Outcome of the Gaga Project

Here is a photograph of my final outcome of the skirt, which I designed and made over a period of three months, including creating all the research into the techniques, designing, development stages. I was very happy with my outcome, as I think it does express the main theme and every technique that I researched is included in the skirt, in a lot of detail.

Development of Skirt

This development page, shows the journey of creating this one-off made skirt. From making the pattern (using cross and dot paper) to constructing, it to the correct shape I want. It also shows me making a toile, to see the true shape in its first form. There is photo evidence and shows the toile on the mannequin to express what the fit would be like.

Designs of Skirt Project

Here is a full A3 page full of designs which I've incorporated and linked all the past techniques (which are on the blog further down) with the black & white Lady Gaga theme to create a one-off skirt. The designs have to be outrageous, extreme and bizarre as possible to enhance Lady Gaga's personality and the techniques used.

Patchwork Technique

Here is another technique page of; Patchwork. It's essential that the, geometric shapes have to be exactly the same or the technique will not work. I've included examples of different patterned material and shapes to get a true reflection, of the technique with a painted design and again always relating back to the theme.

Embellishment Technique

This is my Embellishment page which involves different types of Embellishment; Appliqué and Embroidery. I have given examples with instructions of how I achieved it, with some designs including the technique on the clothing.

Slashing Technique

This technique; Slashing is my favourite effect to use, as while you're sewing over all the mismatched, off cut material and then slashing into the overtop fabric, which the frayed layered material creates an unusual replacement of bursts of different types lengths, textures and shapes.

Pin tucks Technique

This Pin tucks technique page illustrates and explains how the technique is done, used and examples on clothing. The technique is very simple and easy, yet appears to give an usual decorative effect. I have linked the technique, to the black & white Lady Gaga theme throughout the page and tried out the technique myself, in various different ways.

Start of Lady Gaga Project

Here is the start of my Lady Gaga project, which I started in September 2013 during AS Product Design: Textiles. I firstly researched every outrageous outfit that I could find (which was in black or white, as that was the overall main theme). I then picked two of my favourite to do a transcription; by using all different types of media and materials such as; fabrics, threads, diamond's, paint, cling film (to get a plastic shiny effect) and a pencil tonal drawing. By researching her outfits, it really inspired me to go over the top, when coming to design and making clothing.
